Get a taste of JCU life at Mackay Open Day
Explore your study options, meet the people who’ll support your journey, and experience life at James Cook University firsthand at the Mackay Open Day this Sunday, June 7.
From 10am, visitors will have the chance to discover what studying at JCU is really like at the university’s Mater Hospital Campus in Mount Pleasant, with future students and their families able to have questions answered in one place while exploring the campus and student experience.
Attendees will also be able to get hands-on with a range of interactive healthcare activities while taking a guided tour of clinical sites, with food and drinks also available on the day.
There will also be presentations on a wide range of JCU courses in Business, Commerce, Law, Social Work, Teaching and Education, Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Engineering, Arts and Physical and Social Sciences.
“Everyone is welcome to attend, whether you are curious about studying yourself or are a parent, partner or friend of someone looking to study,” JCU Vice Chancellor and President Professor Simon Biggs.
“Our open days provide wonderful opportunities to check out our campus, explore our facilities, attend presentations and chat with future student advisors about study opportunities available at JCU Mackay.
“We’ll also have current students there on the day that you can ask questions about student life, accommodation, life in the region and anything else you’d like to know about their lived experiences as JCU students.”
“I’d really encourage people from the Mackay community and surrounding regions to take this chance to get a first-hand look at what JCU can offer them as regional Queensland’s premier tertiary education institution.”
Sunday’s event will be the first of five JCU Open Days for 2026 with events to follow at the Townsville Begebu Yamba campus (Douglas) on Sunday, June 21, Mount Isa on Thursday, July 16, Emerald on Tuesday, July 21 and the Cairns Nguma-bada campus (Smithfield) on Friday, July 24.
