Your academic transcript must be accompanied by the Grading Scale used at the institution/s where you have undertaken your studies.

Please be aware that while posted, faxed or scanned copies of certificates and transcripts can be used during the assessment process, we do require original certified copies to be posted to us. Step 4.

We will assess your application based on the academic and English entry requirements for your preferred degree.

If your application is successful, an electronic offer package will be sent to you. This will include the following:

  • Offer Letter
  • Name and duration of the degree in which you have been accepted
  • Credit awarded to you for previous studies (if any)
  • Tuition fees and other costs

Step 5.

Once you have received your offer, read it carefully. Then submit the required documentation to satisfy any outstanding conditions of enrolment. You will also need to complete and sign the Acceptance and Payment Agreement, and return it to JCU Brisbane or our overseas representative, along with the fees listed in your Offer Letter.

Step 6.

We will then issue you an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCOE). This is the document that you require in order to apply for an Australian student visa.

Use your eCOE to obtain a student visa from your nearest Embassy or Consulate in your home country.

All overseas students must apply for a student visa before travelling to Australia. To find out more, please contact your nearest Australian Embassy, Consulate or High Commission.

Comprehensive information about visa applications, student work rights and restrictions, health requirements and much more can be found on the Department of Home Affairs (the Department) website.

NOTE: Visa applications can take up to six months or more, depending on your nationality and the country from where you are applying.

How to obtain an Australian visa for study at James Cook University Brisbane:
As of 1 July 2016 the new Simplified Student Visa Framework (SSVF) came into effect, meaning there are new requirements when applying for a Student Visa to study in Australia.

You or your Agent (on your behalf) will need to apply for your visa directly with the Department. All international students will now apply for a single student visa (subclass 500), regardless of their chosen course of study.

What does this mean for you?

  • Mandatory online lodgement of Student Visa Applications
  • Student document checklist tool (to check your financial and English language evidentiary requirements if required before applying)
  • A new immigration risk framework will be used to guide the evidence of English language and financial capacity that a student needs to provide with their visa application

Key requirementsfor Student visa (subclass 500)

  • Genuine Student (GS) requirement
  • Enrolment in a registered course of study
  • Financial capacity and English language proficiency
  • Health and character
  • Health Insurance
  • No debt to the Australian Government
