Additional Information

Build a thorough understanding of engineering fundamentals in your first year. JCU Engineering will provide you with a knowledge base that stretches across the engineering specialisations. You’ll develop a working knowledge of computing, process engineering, electrical engineering, physics and mathematics. This foundation will strengthen your theoretical and technical skills and give you the time and space to discover where your engineering passion lies.

You’ll then benefit from the opportunity to specialise your learning. With five majors to choose from, you’ll deepen your knowledge and focus on theoretical and practical learning within your area of interest. Gain hands-on skills through laboratory classes and field trips. Participate in twelve weeks of work placements with industry partners — you may have the opportunity for paid work experience. In the final year research project, you’ll put your theoretical knowledge to the test by designing a personal research project relevant to your field. You’ll investigate your chosen issue, propose and test solutions, and present your findings in the form of a thesis. An Honours degree can provide you with a pathway into higher degree research, which you can use to explore your passion for research and develop your career further. There are several options for joint degrees, which allow you to gain a breadth of knowledge across different fields and increase your career prospects.

JCU Engineering students are equipped to solve problems and innovate within a variety of industries. Graduates work in areas such as water and waste management, infrastructure, construction, software design and more. Many gain professional registration with their relevant body, while others explore the benefits engineering can bring to other fields, including project management, communications, health or education.
