Course detail
You'll explore how to protect information systems and digital assets, working through threat analysis, secure system design and risk management as you go.
Teaching follows a flipped-classroom model, so class time is spent applying concepts to real-world scenarios and practical exercises.
The curriculum also draws on standards set by the Australian Computer Society (ACS), through its alignment with JCU's ACS-accredited Master of Information Technology program.
This certificate stands on its own as a qualification, with the added option of advanced standing into further study if you choose to continue.
You'll be equipped to apply cyber security capability directly in your current role, or move into new responsibilities or specialised roles built around it.
Graduates often take on cyber security work within their existing ICT role, such as secure system design, threat response, or day-to-day risk management. Others take on more governance-focused work, helping shape how an organisation manages cyber risk more broadly.
With relevant experience, some graduates progress into senior technical roles, or positions focused on security strategy and governance.
Common destinations include cyber security analyst roles, along with broader specialist positions across industries responding to rising cyber security demand.
