About the AGPT program
The Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) program is an Australian Government training program for doctors who want to specialise as general practitioners. In northern and regional Queensland the AGPT program is delivered by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) in partnership with James Cook University’s (JCU) General Practice and Rural Medicine (GPRM).
Successful completion of the AGPT program qualifies registrars to gain fellowship with the RACGP or ACRRM or both.
Both the ACRRM and RACGP fellowships lead to specialist general practitioner registration with the Medical Board of Australia and the ability to work independently anywhere in Australia.
Training in northern and regional Queensland provides registrars with opportunities to live and work in some of the most unique and exciting rural and remote locations settings such as Emerald, Longreach, Mount Isa, Roma and Thursday Island as well as large regional centres such as Cairns, Hervey Bay and Mackay.
Application dates
Selection into the ACRRM and RACGP program is a highly competitive merit-based process. It requires a three or four-year full-time commitment depending on your choice of fellowship.
