Graduates celebrate completing degrees

More than 520 mortar boards will be donned this weekend at James Cook University’s 2012 Medicine, Health and Molecular Science graduation ceremony in Townsville.

The ceremony is being held on Saturday (December 15) at 3pm at the Townsville Entertainment Centre.

Doctors, vets, nurses, physiotherapists, pharmacists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, molecular and biological scientists will be presented with their hard earned degrees.

There will be 92 new doctors, 108 nurses, 40 occupational therapists, 47 physiotherapists, 4 exercise science graduates, 9 medical laboratory degrees, 18 speech pathologists, and 10 bio medical degrees.

There are also 48 Veterinary Science graduates and 54 Pharmacy students.

Seven Doctors of Philosophy awards and 34 Masters degrees will be presented at the ceremony as well.

Each year the university Council awards University Medals to students who have shown outstanding merit in their studies for the Bachelor Honours degree.

To be awarded a University Medal, students must achieve first class honours with a ranking of A and achieve a GPA of 6.5 or better.

Two University Medals will be presented at this weekend’s ceremony.

Other medals to be presented on the day:

Five Academic Medals (Masters Coursework), 3 Academic Medals Honours, and 41 Academic Medals (Bachelor Coursework).

Professor James Burnell will present the Occasional Address and Dr Lynore Geia will deliver the Graduate Address.
