Year 12 students in Mackay will receive their OPs (Overall Positions) this Saturday, and if they intend to study further they will soon have to decide what, where and when.
James Cook University is hosting a special information event in the city next week to help students discover their best options.
Organiser Nancy Edwards said the information session would help students choose from the many options available.
“At this time of year many students and their parents are seeking information as to what their options are,” she said.
“Some will find their OP is better than they expected, others might find it’s not quite what they were hoping for.
“The important thing is to get all the information you need to decide on your best option.”
Queensland Year 12 results and OPs will available online on the Queensland Studies Authority's Student Connect website (https://studentconnect.qsa.qld.edu.au/) from 9am on Saturday, 15th December.
Students have until January 10th to lodge a change of preference for inclusion in the major round of tertiary offers in January.
“We will have JCU staff available to answer any questions on university study, your application and preferences, or simply what happens next,” Ms Edwards said.
It would be an informal drop-in session, and it usually didn’t take too long, she said. “It’s a matter of finding the right person to talk to and getting the information and advice you need.”
Mature-age students who are considering enrolling for 2013 are also welcome to attend.
“Whether you have just received your OP or are planning to start uni next year, speak directly to our experts and get advice about courses and how to apply.”
Students who can’t make it to the information session can ask questions online at www.jcu.edu.au or on freecall 1800 246 446.
Date: Wednesday 19 December
Location: Windmill Motel, 5 Highway Plaza, North Mackay
Time: 4pm-7pm (drop in anytime). Everyone is welcome.
