James Cook University is hosting a special information event in Townsville next week to help Year 12 and mature-age applicants discover their best options.

Year 12 students in North Queensland will receive their OPs (Overall Positions) this Saturday, and if they intend to study further they will have to decide soon what, where and when.

JCU Student Liaison Officer Andrew D’Arcy said the information session would help students choose from the many options available.

“At this time of year many students and their parents are seeking information as to what their options are,” he said.

“Some will find their OP is better than they expected, others might find it’s not quite what they were hoping for.

“At the same time it’s an opportunity for mature-age students who are considering enrolling in 2014 to get the information and advice they need.”

“The important thing is to get all the information you need to decide on your best option.”

Queensland Year 12 results and OPs will available online on the Queensland Studies Authority's Student Connect website (https://studentconnect.qsa.qld.edu.au/) from 9am on Saturday, 14th December.

Students have until January 8 to lodge a change of preference for inclusion in the major round of tertiary offers in January.

Mr D’Arcy invited the community to come and speak with JCU experts, get advice about courses, career directions and how to apply.

“We will have staff from all JCU faculties available to answer any questions on university study, your application and preferences, or simply what happens next,” he said.

It would be an informal drop-in session, and it usually didn’t take too long, he said.

“It’s a matter of finding the right person to talk to and getting the information and advice you need.

“Whether you have just received your OP or are planning to start uni next year, speak directly to our experts and get advice about courses and how to apply.”

Students who can’t make it to the information session can ask questions on freecall 1800 246 446.

Where: Education Central, Building 134, James Cook University, Townsville campus
