JCU vet hospital re-opens
First published July 26, 2013
Townsville pet owners may be relieved to know the Veterinary Emergency Centre and Hospital (VECH) at James Cook University’s Douglas campus has re-opened.
The facility has been closed since June 7 to enable the removal of mould and to conduct a pre-planned program of remedial work on the building.
While the mould infestation was extensive, independent expert investigators advised that the situation was not a threat to either humans or animals.
JCU’s Director of Veterinary Practices Dr Margaret Reilly said all services had been reinstated at the hospital.
“All staff are back working at the hospital and we are very happy with the work that has been done, including the new works,” she said.
Throughout the closure, VECH staff continued to provide clinical services and teaching for students at the Aitkenvale practice and at other JCU facilities.
The VECH can be contacted 1300 JCUVET (or 1300 528 838).
