Budding high school-aged film makers in Northern Queensland are invited to submit their creations to this year’s Northern Lights Film Festival.

It is the fifth year that James Cook University’s School of Creative Arts (SoCA) has hosted the short film festival.

Organisers have been so impressed by the quality and imagination of the high school entries in previous years, they decided to make this year’s NLFF specifically a high school festival.

It is free to submit an entry and the pooled prize money is $1000, from SoCA and the Townsville Cinema Group.

The films can be any genre, the only restriction being they must be short; between 60 seconds and 6 minutes in length.

The deadline for film entries is Thursday 24 October, so all high school students, from Mackay to Mount Isa, Cairns, Cloncurry and everywhere in between, are urged to get their camera rolling.

This year’s screening event and prize announcements will be held at the Old Courthouse in Townsville (courtesy of the Full Throttle Theatre Company) on Saturday, November 9.

The event is free of charge, everyone is welcome and popcorn will be provided!
