Do you know someone who is an outstanding JCU graduate?

Friends, family and colleagues of high achieving James Cook University alumni are urged to nominate them for the 2014 Outstanding Alumni Awards.

JCU’s Outstanding Alumni Awards recognise the graduates of the university and its predecessor institutions who have made an outstanding contribution in their field of endeavour.

This contribution can be at a local, state, national or international level.

Alumni are classified as graduates of JCU and the former Townsville College of Advanced Education, and former students of the University College of Townsville who graduated from the University of Queensland.

Associate Director Lorna Hempstead from JCU’s Office of Engagement, said the awards were a way to highlight the great work being done out in the world by graduates in their post-study years.

“JCU’s graduates are recognised around the world for their talent, knowledge and skill, but the Outstanding Alumni Awards are a way for us as a university to officially acknowledge their achievements,” she said.

“Often, it can be difficult to keep track of former students’ movements and career progressions, so if anyone knows of a JCU graduate who is a leader, or even a quiet achiever, in their chosen field, we encourage you to let us know so we can help them celebrate.”

The nominations for the 2014 awards are now open, and self-nominations are also welcome. All nominations are confidential.

There are three categories of Outstanding Alumni Awards:

1. Outstanding Alumni - up to two outstanding alumni selected by each of the four faculties

Faculty of Medicine, Health & Molecular Sciences

Faculty of Science & Engineering

Faculty of Law, Business and the Creative Arts

Faculty of Arts, Education and Social Sciences incorporating Indigenous Australian Studies

2. Outstanding Early Career Alumni - up to one outstanding alumni selected by each of the four faculties

Early Career Alumni are graduates of JCU who are aged 35 or under at June 30, 2014.

3. Chancellor's Outstanding Alumnus Award - chosen by the Chancellor from the faculty winners in the Outstanding Alumni category.

Nominations must be received by June 19, 2014.

The recipients of the James Cook University Outstanding Alumni Awards will be announced at a special ceremony on Tuesday, August 26 at Jupiters Hotel and Casino, Townsville.
