May 2014 Budget Response

James Cook University is examining the detail of the changes to higher education and research, and is considering what impact it will have on students, staff, the University and the wider community.

The University is disappointed that the Federal Government has decided to reduce its investment in higher education.

We acknowledge that students will have to pay more, although we don’t yet know what impact it will have on JCU students.

On the upside, fee flexibility provides opportunities for us to express our distinctiveness as a university. JCU is well positioned to take advantage of this new higher education environment.

The University is delighted that the budget includes funding of $42 million dollars to the Australian Institute of Tropical Health and Medicine at JCU.
