The Cairns Campus K: racing in August

Who’s the speediest university student in Cairns? We’ll know by Thursday.

Who’s the speediest university student in town? We’ll know by Thursday.

Students and staff at James Cook University in Cairns will contest the annual Cairns Campus K this Thursday (13 August).

The one-kilometre race is a regular feature of the academic year, with trophies awarded for the fastest male and female students, the fastest male and female staff members and the best-dressed team.

“Campus races are a great university tradition around the world, and it’s easy to see why,” Professor Robyn McGuiggan, head of JCU’s Cairns campus said.

“The trophies are hotly contested, the team event is a lot of fun, and it’s a welcome chance for us all to take a break from our desks to either run, walk or cheer others on.”

The race begins at 12.30pm on Founders Green, between buildings A1 and A3.

Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Chris Cocklin, will present the trophies at 12.45pm on Founders Green.

The Student Association will be running a fundraising barbecue from 11.00am to 2.00pm to benefit the JCU women’s soccer team.
