Lunchtime seminar: Beyond zero emissions

The head of the climate change think tank Beyond Zero Emissions will present a free public seminar at The Cairns Institute at James Cook University in Cairns this Wednesday (17 February).

Dr Stephen Bygrave has worked on renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable transport, emissions trading and climate change for over 20 years.

His experience ranges from village-scale renewable energy projects in Fiji, Solomon Islands and Kiribati, to domestic climate policy as a senior executive in the Australian government, and international climate policy with the OECD.

Dr Bygrave worked on the design of Australia’s mandatory renewable energy target in the late 1990s, and the design of Australia’s carbon pricing mechanism between 2007 and 2012.

Beyond Zero Emissions has published research on an Australia powered by 100 per cent renewable energy, zero emissions buildings, high-speed rail, zero emissions agriculture and Australia’s potential as a renewable energy superpower.

Beyond Zero Emissions is partnering with Byron Shire Council in its planned transition to Australia’s first zero emissions community over a ten year period.

Dr Bygrave’s seminar will be presented from 12.00pm to 1.00pm at The Cairns Institute Lecture Theatre at James Cook University in Smithfield.
