JCU-PNG Alumni Network launched

James Cook University has launched an Alumni Network in Papua New Guinea, and has donated a signed jersey from the North Queensland Cowboys to help boost the network’s fundraising efforts.
JCU’s Alumni and Community Development Officer, Damien Watson said nearly 600 alumni were born or live in Papua New Guinea, and the University is excited to be deepening its relationship with graduates who live in PNG.
“JCU’s alumni are its ambassadors, and they also help when we are looking to recruit students to JCU.
“We currently have numerous research projects going at any one time in PNG and our alumni are great contacts in many of those projects, and they also help facilitate a great deal of the learning outcomes JCU is providing in PNG,” Mr Watson said.
Cowboys General Manager for Commercial Business, Jeff Reibel presented the signed and framed Cowboys’ jersey to Desmond Alesana from the Alumni Network at a function in Port Moresby.
Mr Watson said the jersey will help the Alumni Network’s fundraising.
“In setting up this Alumni Network, we’re hoping that our PNG-based alumni will want to give back to their own community. And by donating this jersey, we hope it will be a catalyst to begin their fundraising efforts.”
