James Cook University is getting ready to welcome new students to its Townsville and Cairns campuses for Orientation Week (O Week).

O Week is the biannual event for students to meet staff and mentors, and to begin friendships that could last a lifetime.

Students who attend O Week have been found to have a 22 per cent increased chance of retention and success in their university studies. And that’s why JCU runs two orientation weeks per year to ensure all students are given the opportunity to benefit, whether they start their studies in first or second Semester.

As well as getting to know their campus and classmates, students will also make a start on the serious side of University life, including course introductions, campus tours, academic research, writing and referencing activities, study skills sessions, and an introduction to free support services.
