Last week James Cook University Brisbane campus welcomed over 300 new students for the first trimester of 2023.

Orientation week – affectionately known as ‘O Week’ – is an important rite of passage for students commencing university. It’s a chance to make new friends, get to know the staff and campus and get ready for study. For international students, it’s also a chance to settle into Brisbane life and learn a bit more about the local culture.

JCUB O Week kicked off with some fantastic activities including an Amazing Race style challenge around Brisbane to discover key landmarks and a delicious lunch at Navala Restaurant. Here the students enjoyed beautiful views of the Brisbane River and had the chance to mingle with fellow students, lecturers and the marketing team

A record number of students participated in informative sessions, including:

  • Presentations by Senior Academic staff
  • Essential Academic Skills workshop
  • Joblinx ‘How can I get a job?’ workshop
  • Meeting our Wellbeing, Resource Centre, Marketing and Student Services teams

This week, the real work begins for our new students as they start lectures, but they are off to a flying start thanks to a fantastic O Week!
