The region

From wide open cattle country, to the tropical rainforests and the Great Barrier Reef, Central Queensland has an unforgettably diverse landscape.

Covering more than 500,000 square kilometres, the Central Queensland region starts from Gladstone in the south, inland to Winton and Longreach and extends north along the coastline to include Mackay and the Whitsunday region. Main towns in the region include Airlie Beach, Barcaldine, Bioela, Blackall, Blackwater, Bowen, Emerald, Gladstone, Longreach, Mackay, Proserpine, Rockhampton, Sarina, Theodore, Winton, Woorabinda and Yeppoon.

The Central Queensland region includes everything from close-knit communities through to thriving regional, coastal towns with industry sectors spanning mining, agricultural and tourism.

Training in Central Queensland

There are more than 60 medical services, including 14 hospitals, where you can complete your GP training.  With over 40 ACCRM and 60 RACGP accredited training posts, no matter which college you choose to undertake your fellowship through, there are training posts that will help you achieve your goal of becoming a GP. Some sites have the added benefit of visiting specialists and allied health practitioners on a regular basis.
