Traditional Astronomical Knowledges Evening
Torres Strait Islanders base their lives off the sky. From fishing and gardening to their artwork, they look to the skies for answers. The purpose of the Traditional Astronomical Knowledges Evening is to continue and encourage the sharing of knowledge from Elders down the generations.
In the past, the evening has consisted of songs and dances by the locals, information shared by Elders, a presentation by an astrophysicist, and language quizzes held by local school teachers.
This exclusive event is attended by Torres Strait Elders, community members, politicians, councillors, health staff, school groups, and JCU Executive staff.
