Study four comprehensive subjects and build a strong theoretical foundation in career guidance and counselling by studying career development theories and tools and career development professional practices.
Make study work for you through the flexible carousel delivery mode of the Graduate Certificate of Career Development. Study one subject at a time online during an eight-week block. This flexible delivery makes it easier to balance further study with employment, family, and other demands. If subjects are completed consecutively, the qualification can be completed in about eight months.
The Graduate Certificate of Career Development consists of four subjects: Career Development Theories and Tools, Career Development Professional Practice, Labour Market and the Future of Work, and Career Counselling. Two of these subjects – Career Development Theories and Tools and Career Development Professional Practice – are delivered online. The remaining two – Labour Market and the Future of Work and Career Counselling – require participation in intensive workshops to facilitate the development of applied skills. Workshops take place across 3 days and will be offered online with a potential face-to-face option available, dependent upon enrolment and demand.

If you would like to get accredited knowledge and a certificate in the field of career development but lack the time, funds or desire to study for a full masters degree, the Career Development grad cert may be a good choice for you. This online course focuses on four key subject areas (delivered online with required participation in online workshops) and allows graduates to understand a robust theoretical framework to deliver career counselling and guidance.
The main areas covered by the certificate course are key career development theories and tools, along with career development professional practices. This knowledge is then applied to create a career development portfolio that has two parts. It includes collaboration with career guidance experts, Career Ahead, allowing students to benefit from industry experts in career development

The time commitment for this Graduate Certificate of Career Development is only eight months if all deadlines are met, and it is only available online (although the workshops may be offered face to face if demand is great enough). Intake dates occur six times a year (January, March, May, July, August and October) giving prospective candidates huge flexibility in when they choose to start. It’s also ideal for those who cannot travel to attend classes face to face.
The Career Development Grad Cert is aimed at current careers advisors, career coaches, school guidance counsellors and teachers who wish to expand their skillset with accreditation and practice, or those who would be interested in working in these fields. Some graduates of this course may go on to complete the Master of Guidance and Counselling.
If you are currently working within a role where you are required to give careers guidance, it can be a little daunting. It may be some years since you took an initial qualification in careers counselling, or you may not have any certification in careers counselling at all. It’s absolutely vital to stay up to date with industry developments, especially as many of the jobs that exist now were unheard of a decade ago. Being able to apply a systematic framework in guiding clients toward the right career choices for them will give you confidence in the work you do. A Career Development Grad Cert is also a useful stepping stone if you want to change careers to go into careers counselling for an organisation or start your own business. Upon completion of this certificate, graduates will be eligible for professional membership of the Careers Industry Council of Australia (CICA).

Students may apply for credit transfer for previous tertiary study in accordance with the Credit Transfer Procedure.

Credit gained for any subject shall be cancelled 4 years after the date of the examination upon which the credit is based if, by then, the student has not completed the course of study prescribed for the certificate.
