JCU Vice Chancellor's Scholarship

The JCU Vice Chancellor's Scholarship will be open to students who meet all the following criteria:

• Complete Year 12 in 2023 and are enrolling at JCU in 2024 (the year immediately following the completion of Year 12).
• Are a new student to JCU.
• Are enrolling as a domestic student, full-time for Study Period One, 2024 in an eligible undergraduate full degree (Bachelor) program (Study areas Medicine, Veterinary Science and Dentistry are excluded).
• Are not enrolled in the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery; Bachelor of Veterinary Science or the Bachelor of Dental Surgery – which are excluded.
• Achieve an Australian Tertiary Admissions Ranking (ATAR) of 97.00 or above or equivalent International Baccalaureate (IB) score. Please note adjusted ATARs and bonus rank points do not apply.
• Are an Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa Holder, or Australian Permanent Resident or New Zealand Citizen.
• Are not a recipient of any other JCU-funded scholarship.

$40,000 awarded for up to four (4) years of study ($10,000 per year), paid in four equal instalments of $2,500 after the census dates and results release in Study Period One and Two each year, for a maximum of four (4) years, with completion on a full-time basis their course, as specified in the relevant course handbook. Please allow up to 6 weeks after census and results release dates for payment.

Exclusive mentoring and guidance will be provided through the first year of study to instil success for your on-going study with James Cook University. The scholarship also offers additional group development and engagement opportunities.

Payment of the JCU Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship will be contingent on meeting the following criteria:

• Confirmed achievement of an ATAR of 97.00 or above (or IB equivalent).
• Continued enrolment in full-time study from Study Period One, 2024 for an undergraduate full degree (Bachelor) program until successful completion (excluding the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery; Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Bachelor of Dental Surgery).
• Maintain a GPA of 6.0+ or the equivalent academic standing as determined by the Dean of the relevant college in each Study Period of the Scholarship.
• Students who become ineligible must have GPA of 5.75 in order to be eligible to submit a statement of reason for consideration by the College Dean.  Evidence of special circumstances contributing to the reduced GPA must be provided to the Scholarships Office and must meet the definition of special circumstances.

There is no separate application required for these scholarships. The JCU Vice Chancellor's Scholarship is assessed automatically for Year 12 and gap year QTAC applicants. If you meet all the criteria you will be notified at the time of offer.

Process:

• Apply to your chosen JCU undergraduate course via QTAC.
• We will assess your application for eligibility.
• If you are successful, you will be advised at the time of your offer.
• Offer rounds begin after ATAR results are released in December 2023.

Introduction

The JCU Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship is part of JCU’s commitment to rewarding and supporting high-achieving school leavers. $40,000 will be awarded for up to four (4) years of study ($10,000 per year).

The Scholarship provides financial support to high-achieving undergraduate students commencing full-time study at JCU in Study Period One, 2024.

This Scholarship is subject to the provisions of James Cook University’s Coursework Scholarships, Bursaries and Grants Policy.

Ongoing eligibility

• The recipient must maintain a full-time enrolment in the course for which the scholarship was awarded, or a full-time enrolment in an eligible JCU undergraduate course (the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery; Bachelor of Veterinary Science or Bachelor of Dental Surgery are ineligible).
• The recipient must maintain a GPA of 6.0+ or the equivalent academic standing as determined by the Dean of the relevant college in each Teaching Period of the Scholarship.
• Students who become ineligible must have GPA of 5.75 in order to be eligible to submit a statement of reason for consideration by the College Dean.  Evidence of special circumstances contributing to the reduced GPA must be provided to the Scholarships Office and must meet the definition of special circumstances.

Conditions of the Scholarship

• If the recipient defers their study or takes a leave of absence without approval, the recipient will no longer be eligible for the Scholarship.
• If the recipient transfers to another course of study, continuation of the Scholarship, including tenure, will be subject to the approval of the relevant Dean.
• If the recipient fails to comply with any of the conditions of this Scholarship, the Dean of the relevant College may suspend or terminate the Scholarship or take such action as they deem necessary to enforce compliance of the condition by the recipient.
• A student may lodge a request for review of decision in accordance with the provisions of the Student Appeals Policy.

Administration of the Scholarship

The Scholarship shall be administered by the Scholarships Office, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor.

The funds of the Scholarship shall be held in an account in the name of the University and shall be administered by the Officer of the University charged with administering the Scholarship.

Where an award provides some benefit to the recipient from a body external to the University, or an obligation upon a body external to the University, the University, its servants, and agents, shall not be liable for that benefit or obligation.
