Appointments

JCU Careers and Employability provides bookable appointments for career counselling, job application and job search assistance.

Job application appointments

These include feedback and information on:

  • Resume and cover letters
  • Selection criteria
  • LinkedIn Profile
  • Interview preparation/Mock Interviews
  • Job search strategies

This service is available to JCU students and graduates for up to 12 months after the completion of their studies.

You must have a draft ready prior to your appointment. Please refer to our resume examples and information sheets to help get you started: Job Search Information Sheets and Example Resumes.

Please email your documents at least 24 hours prior to your appointment.

Career counselling appointments

Career Counsellors can help you to identify your skills, interests and values, set goals and explore opportunities. A JCU Career Counsellor can help you make informed career-related decisions and develop strategies to achieve your goals. Appointments are free and confidential.

If you're struggling with a decision about whether to leave or change your course, you may wish to discuss it with a Career Counsellor.

Research and Self-Assessment

  • Work through the You and Your Career module in the Employability Edge program.
  • Check out myfuture. This interactive website helps you to identify your strengths and preferences and the types of jobs that may interest you.
  • Do some research on the occupations and industries that interest you.

  • dropping or adding courses or subjects, or changing programs

Appointments are available on campus face-to-face (subject to Covid restrictions) and by Zoom or telephone.

*After booking your appointment please ensure that any documents you would like reviewed are emailed to careers@jcu.edu.au no later than 24 hours prior to your appointment.

The Student Centre is the best first point of contact for enquiries in relation to choosing electives, gaining credit for previous study, prerequisite requirements, dropping or adding subjects or changing programs.

USEP is a free employment service that supports graduating or graduated students with a disability (including mental health conditions) who are seeking a final year placement or graduate employment.

The service is available to JCU students in their final year or within one year of graduation who have identified as having a disability and/or who access support from the University due to their disability.
