What to expect

Learn contemporary approaches to leadership within education and managerial environments that are applicable across a broad range of workplaces and industries. JCU’s Master of Education – Master of Business Administration is designed for educators who want professional development that includes business administration capabilities.

You will complete nine core subjects that cover educational leadership, people management, marketing and finance and an individual research project. Then, choose seven elective subjects to suit your professional interests. You can also participate in an internship either within the university or externally with a professional organisation.

Become a leader with JCU’s Master of Education - Master of Business Administration. This course will appeal to students looking for a career in management with an emphasis on education and learning paradigms.

Admission Requirements

Course pre-requisites	Completion of an AQF level 7 bachelor degree or Completion of an AQF level 8 honours degree in any discipline from this or another university; or Completion of an AQF level 8 Graduate Certificate in a cognate* discipline from this or another university; or An AQF level 8 Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in a non cognate discipline with a minimum 4 years experience working in education management, leadership or supervisory position;or Other qualifications or practical experience recognised by the Dean, College of Arts, Society and Education as equivalent to the above. Cognate disciplines: Business, Management, Human Resource Management, Education, Curriculum studies Entry requirements for this course are consistent with the Pathways to Qualifications* in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF Level 9) Guidelines for Masters degrees.
Minimum English language proficiency requirements	Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 2 – Schedule II of the JCU Admissions Policy or have successfully completed an AQF level 8 qualification from James Cook University within the previous two years.

Course learning outcomes	On successful completion of the Master of Education - Master of Business Administration, JCU graduates will be able to: Integrate and apply an advanced body of theoretical and technical knowledge, including an understanding of recent developments, in the area of Education Management Investigate, analyse, synthesise and evaluate complex information, problems, concepts and theories, at an advanced level, and critically reflect on theory in relation to different bodies of knowledge or practice Exercise independent ethical judgment and initiative in creatively solving different Education and Management problems Demonstrate advanced speaking, reading, writing, listening, collaborating and advocacy skills for Educational leadership, by communicating clearly and coherently to specialist and non-specialist audiences through a variety of formats and media Critically review regulatory requirements, ethical principles and, where appropriate, cultural frameworks, to work effectively, responsibly and safely in diverse contexts Reflect on current skills, knowledge and attitudes to manage professional learning needs and performance, autonomously and in collaboration with others Apply knowledge of research principles, methods, techniques and tools to plan and execute a substantial research-based project, capstone experience and/or piece of scholarship. Eligibility	Students may apply for a credit transfer for previous tertiary study or informal and non-formal learning in accordance with the Credit Transfer Procedure
Maximum allowed	24 credit points Except where a student transfers from one JCU award to another, then credit may be granted for more than half of the new award, where there is subject equivalence between the awards
