Cultural Sash:
Australian Aboriginal | The Aboriginal Sash is predominantly red with yellow borders. Black panels at the bottom display the Aboriginal flag within the outline of Australia. The sash is finished with black fringes. The Aboriginal Sash incorporates the colours of the Aboriginal flag, an Australian map symbolising the Aboriginal people, the sun, the red ochre of the earth, and the Rainbow Serpent — an enduring symbol of spiritual connection to the land and the Dreamtime. |
Torres Strait Islander | This Torres Strait Islander sash is predominantly blue with green borders, incorporating wave-like patterns and features the Dhari headdress. Black panels at the ends of the sash feature traditional Torres Strait Islander totems, including a turtle and a dugong. The sash is finished with black fringes The Torres Strait Islander Sash reflects the colours of Torres Strait culture — green for the land, blue for the waters, black for the people, and white representing the arrival of Christianity. The design also features significant cultural totems such as the turtle, dugong, and the Dhari headdress. |
Combined Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander | This sash is an equal blend of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander sashes, with one half directly mirroring the design of the Aboriginal sash and the other half replicating the Torres Strait Islander sash. |
