Bachelor of Veterinary Science Relocation Grant
The Bachelor of Veterinary Science Relocation Grant is to provide support to students who receive an offer for Bachelor of Veterinary Science and are ineligible to receive the Tertiary Access Payment.
This Grant is subject to the provisions of James Cook University’s Coursework Scholarships, Grants and Prizes Policy.

The Bachelor of Veterinary Science Relocation Grant will be offered to students who meet all the following criteria:
- Are an Australian Citizen, New Zealand (SCV 444 / or long term residency requirements), Permanent Resident or permanent Humanitarian Visa Holder.
- Are moving from a Major Cities in Australia area for tertiary study.
- Have completed Year 12 in 2023 and are enrolling at JCU in 2024 (the year immediately following the completion of Year 12).
- Will be studying a tertiary course at certificate IV or above in the 12 months immediately after completing year 12.
- Are 22 years of age or younger on the day they start their tertiary course.
- Are in need of financial support (i.e. receiving Centrelink payments / have parents or guardians whose income is under the current combined parental income limit of $250,000)
- Do not meet the eligibility requirements for the Tertiary Access Payment.
If you are awarded this grant, you will receive $5,000 which will be paid in 1 instalment after census date of Study Period 1. Please allow up to 6 weeks after census date for payment.
There is no separate application required for this grant. The Bachelor of Veterinary Science Relocation Grant is assessed automatically and offers will be made to eligible students in line with QTAC offers for 2024.
Applicants must submit evidence upon receiving offer to ensure eligibility requirements are meet:
- Proof of address in a Major Cities in Australia.
- Proof of relocation.
- Proof of financial hardship. Examples of Supporting Documentation
The applicant authorises the Selection Committee to make such enquiries as to the applicant’s good character and suitability to receive the grant, which includes authorisation for the Selection Committee to examine the applicant’s academic record, and seek opinions from relevant members of the academic staff of this University or any other academic institution.

Selection Process
The award of the grant shall be made in the absolute discretion of the Selection Committee, which shall comprise:
- Dean, College of Public Health, Medical and Veterinary Sciences (Chair), or nominee
- Manager, Future Students (Domestic), or nominee; and
- other members deemed appropriate, as determined by the Chair.
The Selection Committee will determine all matters relating to the selection of the Grant awardee.
Conditions of the Grant
- If the recipient defers their study, the recipient will no longer be eligible for the award.
- If the recipient transfers to another course of study, the recipient will no longer be eligible for the award.
- If the recipient fails to comply with any of the conditions of this Grant, the Grant will be terminated.
- A student may lodge a request for review of decision in accordance with the provisions of the Student Appeals Policy.
Administration of the Grant
The Grant shall be administered by the Scholarships Office, on behalf of the Selection Committee.
The funds of the Scholarship shall be held in an account in the name of the University and shall be administered by the Officer of the University charged with administering the Scholarship.
Where an award provides some benefit to the recipient from a body external to the University, or an obligation upon a body external to the University, the University, its servants, and agents, shall not be liable for that benefit or obligation.
