Hunter Medal in Computer Systems Engineering

Alan Liang

I graduated with a Bachelors of Electrical Engineering (Hons) / Bachelor of Information Technology in 2019 from James Cook University Townsville, Bebegu Yumba campus, Douglas.

I am currently working at Ericsson in Melbourne as a Graduate Integration Engineer where I work on the testing and integration team. However, my situation is a little tricky as I was also caught up in the COVID-19 pandemic and was unable to make it to Melbourne to start work. Luckily Ericsson have been very kind and understanding and were able to ship a work laptop to me in Townsville and have me start working from home. I must say, starting a graduate program a month late and not from the office is a little unusual and in it itself a tricky challenge to climb over.

Prior to working with Ericsson I had been working at Campbell Scientific Australia as a Graduate Application Engineer where I was designing and building weather stations. My dream pathway is in software and I feel like I am on the right track!

I can only express my sincere gratitude to you for this award. I truly did not even have any idea that such an award existed and that I would be considered for this it, so it came to me as a complete surprise. I remember being in the middle of a meeting at work, when I saw an email about the award, and at first I thought it was a phishing email. My work had just sent out a fake phishing email to see who would accidently click on the link by accident and I was being very cautious. But then I spoke to some colleagues of mine, and when I started to realize this was legitimate, I was incredibly happy.

Thank for very much for this award!
