Research opportunities

TREAD has been successful in obtaining funds for range of projects. There are currently a number of projects available for Honours, Masters, and PhD candidates for motivated qualified researchers.

Postgraduate Students

Potential PhD projects in the TREAD include:

• Usefulness of wound fluid bone turnover and inflammatory markers in diagnosis of diabetic foot osteomyelitis
• Multi-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis: etiopathogenesis in diabetes
• Lower limb vascular calcification in diabetes with end-stage renal failure: role of phosphate binders
• Immunologic basis of diabetes multi-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis
• Tele-management of diabetes

Scholarship Opportunities

Higher degree students may be eligible for a scholarship through the Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) scheme, the James Cook University Postgraduate Research Scholarship (JCUPRS) the Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) or an equivalent national or international scholarship. Honours Students

Students who have completed their undergraduate training in a MBBS, BSc, BBiomedSc, BMedlabSc or equivalent program and are interested in participating in the Medicine or Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Honours Program are encouraged to contact TREAD. Honours studies require a full-time commitment for one year (two semesters) and can start in either February or August.

Potential Honours Projects in the TREAD include:

• Macrovascular complication associated with diabetes at North Queensland region
• Amputations associated with metabolic syndrome
