VAVS - Videoconferencing and Audio Visual Services - split in two
The Digital Service Delivery team provides equipment and support services (tier 1 and tier 2) in Cairns, Cairns (CBD), Cairns Hospital, Townsville, Townsville CBD, Townsville Mater Hospital, Townsville University Hospital as well as the campuses at Mackay Clinical School, Mackay Mater Hospital, Mount Isa (including Cloncurry and Longreach), Atherton, Malanda and Thursday Island. The team has five technicians (four full time, one casual) and its Head based in Townsville.
The Digital Space Engineering team provides tier 3 technical support for advanced technical support, room maintenance, room upgrades and establishing new rooms. Three full time engineers in Townsville and one in Cairns makes up the team with its Manager and Head in Townsville.
AV Room Systems
VAVS maintains, controls and administers audio visual systems at JCU and affiliated campuses
Video Conferencing
- VAVS provides videoconferencing room hardware maintenance, scheduling of video calls and bridging for multi site connections.
Video Recording System
- VAVS maintains hardware recorders in centrally bookable spaces at Cairns and Townsville..
Panopto is the University's centrally supported enterprise video capture platform from 1/7/2021.
Zoom
- VAVS provides meeting and webinars user support for Zoom, the preferred Virtual Meeting Room system available to all staff and students.
Audio Visual Equipment
- Technical staff are available at both the Cairns and Townsville campuses to provide Audio Visual Equipment support. For assistance with audio visual equipment in common teaching rooms including projectors, TV-monitors, touch-, button- and control panels, Panopto hardware recorders and visualisers, contact VAVS.

Room PC
- For computer, software or other IT related problems, contact IT Support or enter a Service Now request/incident online.
Video hardware recorders
- For hardware related in room recorder problems contact VAVS.

- The Digital Service Delivery team are available to train and assist users to get the full benefit of JCU videoconferencing and audio visual room systems, either as a one on one or group training sessions.
MedTech was restructured in January 2023 and support is now provided by the Digital Services Team in the Medicine, Pharmacy and Veterinary precincts.
- For power, lighting and air conditioning related problems, fill out a MEX request (maintenance request).
Digital Space engineers are available to assist with audio visual room upgrades.
