History of the prize

Cairns Regional Council governs a 1,687 km² coastal area between the Wet Tropics rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef. The Council is committed to shaping a sustainable future for the region, with strong community support for protecting the natural environment and addressing climate change. Its Growth and Sustainability team works with partners across sectors to drive social, economic, environmental, and cultural outcomes.

Cairns Regional Council have supported JCU students in planning, sustainability and environmental practice since 2014.

Prize Information

Awarded to the Bachelor of Arts, Environmental Science, or Education student enrolled at the Cairns Nguma-bada campus who has completed the first year of their degree and achieved the highest overall percentage mark in EV1008: Human Geography.
