History of the prize

This prize was founded in 1996 and is funded with a capital donation from Mrs Thelma Martel to encourage the study of conservation. The prize is awarded to the level 3 Tropical Environment Studies and Geography student who is deemed to have achieved an outstanding level of performance in environmental studies and who has shown a strong interest and ability in conservation and who, in the year succeeding enrols in Honours at James Cook University.
