H.J. Priestley Memorial Prize

History of the prize

This prize was founded in 1970 and is maintained by a fund donated by the late Mr H.T. Priestley, Chairman of the Advisory Council of the University College of Townsville from 1961 to 1970, in memory of his father, the late Professor H.J. Priestley, Foundation Professor of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Queensland; and by a number of other persons wishing to contribute to the Memorial Fund. The prize is awarded to the student who has demonstrated the best overall performance and ability at level 2 in the subjects of mathematics and physics.
