John Savina Award

History of the prize

John Savina holds a special place in the hearts of all in Pharmacy at JCU as he was one of the catalysts for the formation of this Pharmacy School. He was dedicated to excellence and the belief that Pharmacy needed highly qualified and committed Pharmacists. He recognized the need for a School in the North and willingly spent his time giving advice and assisting the School to develop and flourish and was very proud of the fact that our graduates have been well received by the profession.

Three organisations have come together to sponsor this award in honour of John - an indication of his involvement with all aspects of the profession.

John Savina was tragically killed in a plane crash on 31 March 2006.

John advocated for the "well rounded student" who achieved academically as well as making a contribution to the profession. The graduating class of the year are invited to nominate their peers for this award.
