History of the prize

The Twomey Doctor of Pharmacy Dux Prize celebrates the highest standards of academic achievement and professional excellence within the Doctor of Pharmacy program at James Cook University. Georgina and Trent Twomey established this prize to recognise outstanding graduates and to inspire future pharmacists to pursue excellence in patient care, clinical practice, leadership, and lifelong learning. Through this enduring gift, they hope to support the development of the next generation of pharmacists who will make meaningful contributions to the health and wellbeing of their communities.

Prof Trent Twomey and Georgina Twomey

Georgina and Trent Twomey are passionate advocates for the pharmacy profession and committed supporters of pharmacy education in Australia. Based in Cairns, they are pharmacy owners and leaders within the community pharmacy sector. Professor Trent Twomey is a James Cook University alumnus and serves as National President of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, having dedicated his career to advancing the role of pharmacists in improving health outcomes for communities. Through the establishment of the Twomey Prize Fund, Georgina and Trent seek to recognise and encourage academic excellence, leadership and professional achievement among future pharmacists, while creating a lasting legacy that supports pharmacy students at JCU for generations to come.
