History of the prize
The Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS) Indigenous Academic Merit Award was inaugurated in 2022 by THHS through a scholarship, then transitioned into Award support from 2026. The Award is a combined strategy of THHS and JCU to reward progression and completion rates for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in the Bachelor of Nursing Science to improve health service access and health outcomes for the region’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by developing a nursing and midwifery workforce that reflects the diversity of our community.
The Indigenous Academic Merit Award is awarded to successful students in their first, second, or third year of their Bachelor of Nursing Science degree. The Award is subject to the provisions JCU’s Coursework Scholarships, Grants and Prizes Procedure.
