About Us

The Marine Geophysics Laboratory has existed at JCU since 1989.  Borne of the research interests of Professor Peter Ridd, the laboratory is now active in both research and consulting.  Our staff members come from a wide range of backgrounds but share a passion for science and a commitment to delivering internationally respected products and services.

The principal focus of the laboratory is the study of sediment transport and it is this expertise that has led to a number of environmental monitoring contracts with clients, including TPA/Sinclair Knight Merz, Ok Tedi Mining, Lihir Mining, Freeport Indonesia, GHD, WBM, EPA, Environment Australia, Ports Corporation of Queensland, Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, Maunsell, KBR and Worley Parsons. In addition to our wealth of experience on sediment transport and monitoring, we have are also able to offer many other services.

Due to the specific nature of the work carried out by the laboratory, we have developed a range of innovative scientific instruments as well as robust systems for data analysis.  These instruments have been designed and built in-house and have proven reliability in the harsh marine environment. If you are interested in the work we are doing and would like to know more please contact us.
