Melanie Burgess graduated from James Cook University in 2012 with a BPharm and a swathes of awards including the JCU Pharmacy John Savina Award, the NAIDOC Female Undergraduate Award, and the Pharmacy Student of the Year Nationalist Finalist Award. Of the highest prestige was her receiving of the Professor James Dare Graduate of the Year Award from the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia which recognises qualities such as leadership, initiative and strong ethics.

Translating her high academic pedigree into a successful career, she is now the Senior Pharmacist – Chronic Conditions for Queensland Health’s West Moreton Health Region, extending upon stints at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney, the Hunter New England Local Health Service and the Gold Coast Hospital. In her current role, Melanie is practicing in cardiology in the outpatient and community setting, caring for patients from across the West Moreton region.
