Andrea MannWhen the COVID 19 pandemic was declared in January 2020, Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service’s pandemic preparedness had never been stronger thanks to the significant contribution of Andrea Mann.

Andrea has played an integral part in the development of the Disaster and Emergency management portfolio and has been able to use her training and skills as both a clinician and disaster and emergency specialist to ensure TCHHS is equipped to manage significant events - protecting Torres and Cape Communities while maintaining the safety of staff.

Growing up in Home Hill, Andrea developed an interest in health at an early age and completed her Bachelor of Nursing Science with JCU in 2004.  Following several years in Brisbane at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Andrea moved to Far North Queensland in 2014 to take up a Nurse Unit Manager position at Thursday Island Hospital, Torres Strait.

Being one of only a few nurses with Disaster and Emergency Management qualifications Andrea was the obvious choice to be the appointed the Director of Nursing – Clinical Coordinator Disaster and Emergency Management for the HHS during the COVID response and vaccination roll out.

Andrea has shown a consistent and sustained commitment to improving clinical services in an ever-broadening sphere of responsibility and within the Disaster and Emergency Management space, she has really made her mark.

With integrity and empathy, Andrea led the development of the Mass Casualty Incident and Pandemic Plans, delivered a vaccination roll out in some of the most remote and diverse communities in Australia, ensured culturally safe practice and response through meaningful engagement with community leaders and demonstrated strong clinical leadership at all tiers of health service delivery.
