Healthy lives for people in Northern Australia and the tropics through health and health-care research.
Research with impact
Leading the charge against tropical diseases
With tropical diseases occurring primarily in the world’s tropical and sub-tropical regions, addressing their impact is particularly important for the wellbeing of communities in northern Australia. As we near the International Day of the Tropics, Associate Professor Richard Bradbury shines a light on the important research happening in this space by answering key questions about the current state of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in Australia.
The future of physio?
JCU PhD candidate Claire Grant is examining if children with cerebral palsy could be diagnosed via telehealth if there is no paediatric physiotherapist available locally. She says that early intervention is key to maximise quality of life for the children and their families.
Our research
Our research focuses on advancing health and well-being for people in Northern Australia and the tropics by addressing key challenges in health and health care.
We are committed to improving rural, regional, and remote health accessibility and services, strengthening health care systems and delivery, and harnessing digital health innovations such as telemedicine and AI to enhance disease management and wellness.
Our work spans from bench to bedside, tackling diseases of regional significance, including cardio-metabolic conditions, while also prioritizing the health of Indigenous communities and mental well-being.
With expertise in tropical and infectious diseases, we contribute to global efforts in disease prevention and treatment.
Through a One Health approach, we recognize the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health, ensuring our research has a broad and lasting impact.
