This project forms part of a larger agenda of developing case studies of place-based tropical design for our region. The three case studies presented here include our award winning Cairns Esplanade, the Botanical Gardens and the Shields Street redevelopment which is near to our JCU City Campus. All are examples that express best practice tropical urban design in Cairns. The research for the case studies was completed by JCU students as part of their studies, who collected the materials such as policy documentation and photographs. Lisa Law developed a set of interview questions surrounding the cases and Russell Milledge directed the videos (filmed in 2016).
