Professor Margaret Carter

Professor Margaret Carter is the Director of M. A. Carter Consultancy, specialising in mental health and wellbeing support services across a range of educational contexts.

Margaret’s main areas of research and educational consultancy include mental health and wellness, preventing cyberbullying, and young children’s social behaviour.  Her scholarship and research in cyber safety and mental health is grounded in her understanding and advocacy that mental health is everyone’s business.

Margaret has intentionally intertwined research, teaching and community engagement in all aspects of her work. This led to her receiving a National Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning in 2017 for leading a transformative and ethical community of inquiry approach in a guidance and counselling program.

Margaret was the Professor and Chair, Discipline of Counselling with the Australian College of Applied Professions (ACAP) (2019-2022). Prior to ACAP, Margaret was employed at James Cook University from 2010, first in Singapore as a Senior Lecturer in Education (2010-2013), then in Australia as a Senior Lecturer and an Associate Professor in Education (2017-2018).
