For high school students, the most direct entry to uni is determined by the result you achieve in your final years of school. These results are combined and compared to other students to produce an Australian Tertiary Academic Rank (ATAR).

SELECTION RANK
ATAR is the Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank. The ATAR is not a score out of 100 – it is a rank. It shows a student’s achievement in relation to other students. The highest rank given is usually an ATAR of 99.95. This means they are ranked higher than 99.95% of students in that year. The reason it is not 100% is that the top ranking is usually shared amongst a number of students.
JCU uses the ATAR to assess whether you can meet the academic requirements for your chosen university course. Just remember, if you don’t meet the ATAR requirements, there are often different study pathways you can take to get into your desired course.
Adjustment factors award additional points to a student's ATAR to calculate a Selection Rank. If you are eligible for adjustment factors, these will be automatically applied when you apply through QTAC.
Yes, an ATAR and a selection rank are different. An ATAR is your academic performance compared to other students. A selection rank is your ATAR plus any adjustment factors you are eligible for.
