Application process
Before you apply
Explore what JCU has to offer through the JCU course page and study area pages, and choose your preferred degrees.
Course entry requirements
Entry to most courses is assessed on your ATAR or equivalent, as well as English language requirements.
Each course has its own entry requirements and/or prerequisites. Find your course’s requirements on the course page, under ‘Fast Facts’ within the ‘Entry Requirements’ section.

Application due dates
Once you have selected your degree, refer to the QTAC Key Dates page to make sure you can apply for your preferred start date.
Additional information for JCU alumni and previous students
Application dates vary between courses, whether they're delivered in semester, trimester or carousel study modes.
Check your intended start date on our course pages and the application deadlines for applying directly to JCU.
If your entry score isn’t what you hoped for – or if you don’t meet a program’s subject prerequisites – JCU offers alternative pathways to study – you can explore them at a Pathway to JCU, or contact our Future Students team.
Submitting your online application
—
When you’re ready to apply, note down the QTAC code on the JCU course page. You’ll find this in the Fast Facts section of the page. See the image below for guidance.
Every JCU course has a different QTAC code for different campus locations. You’ll find a small flag with the first letter of the relevant campus next to your QTAC code.

—
Login to the QTAC portal, or create an account if you haven’t made one yet. Make sure you use a personal email address so you have access to it outside of the school term.
—
Follow the instructions on the QTAC portal to complete your application. You can apply for up to 6 JCU courses at once, but remember to place your preferred course as your first preference.
For more support on navigating QTAC, head to the Navigating QTAC page. You can also find more information on ordering your preferences here.
Are you applying for a Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Science degree?
If you are applying for a degree in Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Science, you have a few more steps in the application process. Learn more about the two step application process.
Application information for JCU alumni and previous students who are applying direct to JCU
For JCU alumni and previous students, download the Application to study at JCU form (PDF, 961 KB), fill it out and send it via email to admissions@jcu.edu.au
After you apply
We encourage you to track your application by regularly checking your QTAC account. You will receive a notification of the outcome here. Once you receive an offer, you’ll be given instructions you need to follow to accept your JCU offer.
Waiting time can vary, so it’s important to be patient. QTAC aims to make offers within 2 weeks after the application deadline. But in peak processing times, the waiting period might extend up to 6 weeks. Most of the time, offers made to school leavers and new students are sent out in the January offer round.
If you think you should’ve received an offer from JCU and haven’t, contact us.
Information for JCU alumni and previous students
We encourage you to check your inbox regularly to find out if you have received an offer and for instructions on how to accept it.
