2024 Australia Day Honours for JCU community

We extend our congratulations to the James Cook University staff and alumni who have been recognised in the 2024 Australia Day Honours lists as well as local award recipients.

They are as follows:

Professor Michael Reilly - Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division for service to the community through a range of organisations.


Adjunct Professor Dr Robert Cooke OAM - Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the General Division for significant service to the judiciary, and to the law.


Adjunct Associate Professor, College Healthcare Sciences Ms Jennifer Cullen - Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the General Division for significant service to people with disability, and to the community through a range of roles.


Alumni Dr Brett Sutton - Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the General Division for significant service to education in the field of health and behavioural science.


Former Adjunct Lecturer, Civil Procedure, The Honourable Justice Grant Riethmuller - Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the General Division for significant service to the judiciary, and to the law.


Terri Brabon – Bachelor of Theatre (1995) –for service to the theatrical arts.


Colin Sparkes – Bachelor of Education Primary (2005) – for service to surf lifesaving and to rugby league.
