TESS Director Appointed to the Australian Academy of Science's National Committee for Ecology, Evolution and Conservation

Susan Laurance, at the DRO

January 2026:

Director of the Centre for Environmental and Sustainability Science and Professor of Ecology at James Cook University, Dr Susan Laurance, has been appointed to the Australian Academy of Science’s National Committee for Ecology, Evolution and Conservation.

The National Committee provides authoritative and strategic advice to the Academy on the development of ecology, evolution and conservation science both in Australia and internationally.

Dr Laurance’s appointment recognises the importance of contributing expert guidance on emerging scientific trends and conservation challenges and ensuring that regional priorities—particularly those relevant to northern Australia—are represented alongside global advances in environmental science. The role also supports evidence-based input into national policy and decision-making.
