Vale Robin Gilliver

Dear Colleagues

It is with deep regret I advise you that Mr Robin Gilliver passed away on 21 October.

Robin Gilliver had a significant and long association with JCU.  Robin worked for the former Townsville College of Advanced Education from 1977 until its amalgamation with JCU in 1982. He remained with JCU until his retirement in 2002. During this time he held many roles with the University, with his last role being that of University Registrar: one in which he made an enormous contribution to the University.

He remained associated with JCU after his retirement including as an alumnus, as a convocation member of the 16th University Council, which served from April 2014 to April 2018, and through his partner Emeritus Professor Rhondda Jones.

There can be no doubt that Robin was dedicated to JCU and he made myriad contributions to the University over the course of his working life and beyond. He will be sadly missed by those of us who had the opportunity to know and work with him.

Robin’s life was celebrated at St James’ Cathedral on Monday, 29 October.

Our hearts go out to Rhondda and I am sure you will all join me in wishing her our sincerest condolences.

Vale Robin Gilliver.

Kind regards
Professor Sandra Harding
Vice Chancellor and President
James Cook University
