Undergraduate
You must have successfully completed six months of full-time study at a recognised higher education institution and received a minimum cumulative GPA of 4.9 out of 7.0, or minimum average results of approximately 65-70%.
Gap Year (Study Abroad applicants only): You may be eligible to apply directly after high school and must provide your High School Certificate (or equivalent). These applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Undergraduate entry requirements by country of origin
Academic entry requirements vary by country. If your country is not listed below, please email internationaladmissions@jcu.edu.au.
Undergraduate: Successful completion of one semester (six months) of study at a recognised higher education institution in Denmark with an overall grade of Pass (average of D or better).
Gap Year (Study Abroad applicants only): Successful completion of Studentereksamen, Højere forberedelseseksamen or Højere handelseksamen or Hojere Tekniskeksamen.
English proficiency: Not applicable in most cases, providing students have studied through the Danish education system within the previous five years.
Undergraduate: Successful completion of six months of study at a recognised German university with an overall grade of Pass.
Gap Year (Study Abroad applicants only): Successful completion of Abitur, Fachhochschulreife or Reifezeugnis.
English proficiency: Academic IELTS, TOEFL or Pearson; or Abitur/Allgemeine Hochschulreife or Zeugnis der Fachhochsculreife with 2 (gut) or better in English as a Basic course (Grundkurs); or Abitur/Allgemeine Hochschulreife or Zeugnis der Fachhochsculreife with 3 (befriedigend) or better in English as an Intensive course (Leistungskurs); or DAAD English language test – Minimum of four stars (****) in each section of the test i.e. Oral interaction, Reading and Writing. At the time of course commencement, IELTS, TOEFL and DAAD test results must not be older than two years, while Abitur/Allgemeine Hochschulreife or Zeugnis der Fachhochsculreife must not be older than five years from the qualification completion.
Undergraduate: Successful completion of at least six months of study at a recognised higher education institution in Norway.
Gap Year (Study Abroad applicants only): Successful completion of Norwegian Vitnemål fra den Videregående Skolen with a minimum GPA of 3.5.
English proficiency: Academic IELTS, TOEFL or Pearson; or grade of 4 or better in any English subject in the Vitnemål fra den Videregående Skolen. At the time of course commencement, IELTS and TOEFL test results must not be older than two years, while Vitnemål fra den Videregående Skolen must not be older than five years from completion of the relevant English subject.
Undergraduate: Successful completion of at least six months of study at a recognised higher education institution in Sweden.
Gap Year (Study Abroad applicants only): Successful completion of Upper Secondary School (Slutbetyg) or Kommunal vuxenutbildning (Komvux) with a minimum GPA of 12.
English proficiency: Academic IELTS, TOEFL or Pearson; or grade of C or 15 (VG for the old grading scale) or better in English B or English 6 in the Swedish Slutbetyg fran Gymnasieskola or Gymnasieskolan Högskoleförberedande examen / Yrkesexamen. At the time of course commencement, IELTS and TOEFL test results must not be older than two years, while Slutbetyg or Komvux must not be older than five years from completion of the relevant English subject.
Undergraduate: Successful completion (a pass) of one year of study at a recognised university or other post-secondary institution at the date you apply with a minimum GPA of 2.8 (NB students with a GPA between 2.5 and 2.7 will be considered for the Study Abroad program). Students from freshman year will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Gap Year (Study Abroad applicants only): Successful completion of High School Diploma or equivalent with SAT score of 1000 or an ACT score of 22.
English proficiency: Not applicable in most cases.
Postgraduate
You must have successfully completed a bachelor degree or equivalent from a recognised higher education institution.
Postgraduate students applying for the Study Abroad Program can study a maximum of one teaching period only.
English Language Requirements
You can demonstrate the required English language skills through results from English language tests, evidence of previous studies or work experience.
Depending on the visa assessment level of your country of citizenship, you may be required to pass an English language test, even if you meet JCU's English language requirements in other ways. For details contact the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs.
English language tests
JCU accepts results from many different English language tests, which must be undertaken at an approved testing centre and be no more than two years old at the time of course commencement.
Check the range of English language tests you can take and the resulting scores required.*
*From 26 July 2023, TOEFL iBT can no longer be used for Australian visa purposes until future notice from the Department of Home Affairs. JCU continues to accept TOEFL iBT result to meet English language proficiency requirements for admissions purposes. However, it is the student's responsibility to ensure they meet English language requirements for visa purposes, following the advice from the Department of Home Affairs.
Online mode tests including TOEFL Home Edition, IELTS online, and IELTS Indicator are not recognised.
