Classification Standards – Adjunct / Full Academic Title

Level

Skills Base

Adjunct Lecturer - Level B

An "Adjunct Lecturer/JCU Lecturer - Level B" academic appointee shall have qualifications and/or experience recognised by the institution as appropriate for the relevant discipline area. In many cases a position at this level will require a doctoral or masters qualification or equivalent accreditation and standing. In determining experience relative to qualifications, regard is given to teaching experience, experience in research, experience outside tertiary education, creative achievement, professional contributions and / or to technical achievement.

Adjunct Senior Lecturer - Level C

An "Adjunct Senior Lecturer/JCU Senior Lecturer - Level C" academic appointee will normally have advance qualifications and / or recognised significant experience in the relevant discipline area. A position at this level will normally require a doctoral qualification or equivalent accreditation and standing. In determining experience relative to qualifications, regard shall be given to teaching experience, experience in research, experience outside tertiary education, creative achievement, professional contributions and / or to technical achievement. In addition a position at this level will normally require a record of demonstrable scholarly and professional achievement in the relevant discipline area.

Adjunct Associate Professor - Level D

An "Adjunct Associate Professor/JCU Associate Professor - Level D" academic appointee will normally have the same skill base as a "Level C" academic. In addition there is a requirement for academic excellence which may be evidenced by an outstanding contribution to teaching and / or the profession.

Adjunct Professor - Level E

An "Adjunct Professor/JCU Professor - Level E" academic appointee shall have the same skill base as a "Level D" academic adjunct appointee but will be recognised as a leading authority in the relevant discipline area.

Adjunct Research Associate – Level A

An “Adjunct Research Associate/JCU Research Associate – Level A” academic appointee must be a recent JCU Higher Degree by Research graduate who will continue to make a significant contribution to the research activities of the University.

Adjunct Research Fellow – Level B

An “Adjunct Research Fellow/JCU Research Fellow – Level B” academic appointee must have a doctoral degree and the equivalent of three years’ postdoctoral experience with evidence of significant postdoctoral research outputs.

Adjunct Senior Research Fellow – Level C

An “Adjunct Senior Research Fellow/JCU Senior Research Fellow – Level C” academic appointee must have at least 5 years postdoctoral experience and a national profile in the relevant research field.

Adjunct Principal Research Fellow – Level D

An “Adjunct Principal Research Fellow/JCU Principal Research Fellow – Level D” academic appointee must have at least 8 years of postdoctoral research with a requirement for academic results and a profile of international excellence in the relevant research field recognised by peers.

Adjunct Professorial Research Fellow– Level E

An “Adjunct Professorial Research Fellow/JCU Professorial Research Fellow – Level E” academic appointee must have a position of international leadership in his or her field of expertise and a distinguished record of research and scholarly contributions as evaluated by peers.

Classification of Professional/Clinical Adjunct Appointments

Level

Skills Base

Adjunct Lecturer/JCU Lecturer (Professorial or Clinical) - Level B

An “Adjunct Lecturer/JCU Lecturer (Professorial or Clinical) – Level B” appointee must possess basic qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or appropriate experience recognised by the Division; and

Must be registered with the relevant State/Territory or National Registration body as appropriate; and

Must demonstrably contribute to the development of their profession through clinical research and/or teaching and/or professional advocacy.

Adjunct Senior Lecturer/JCU Senior Lecturer (Professorial or Clinical) - Level C

An “Adjunct Senior Lecturer/JCU Senior Lecturer (Professorial or Clinical) – Level C” appointee must possess five (5) years of distinguished clinical service and  a fellowship or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant clinical discipline; and

Must significantly contribute to their profession through clinical research and/or teaching and or professional advocacy.

Adjunct Associate Professor/JCU Associate Professor (Professorial or Clinical) - Level D

An “Adjunct Associate Professor/JCU Associate Professor (Professorial or Clinical) – Level D” appointee must possess eight (8) years of distinguished clinical service and/or a senior position within a health care system; and

Must have demonstrable and outstanding contributions to their profession through research and/or teaching and/or professional advocacy; and

Must have a national profile within their profession.

Adjunct Professor/JCU Professor (Professional or Clinical) - Level E

An “Adjunct Professor/JCU Professor (Professorial or Clinical) – Level E” appointee must possess National leadership within their profession; and

Must hold a senior influential position within a health care system at a State/Territory or National level.

Full Academic Title Honorary Appointments currently work in a health professional role and are actively engaged in/or plan to become engage in support of JCU.  A "JCU Lecturer" honorary appointee shall have qualifications and/or experience recognised by the institution as appropriate for the relevant discipline area. In many cases a position at this level will require a doctoral or masters qualification or equivalent accreditation and standing. JCU Senior Lecturer – Level C

Full Academic Title Honorary Appointments currently work in a health professional role and are actively engaged in/or plan to become engage in support of JCU.  A "JCU Associate Professor" honorary appointee will normally have the same skill base as a "Level C" Academic. In addition, there is a requirement for academic excellence which may be evidenced by an outstanding contribution to teaching and / or the profession.

JCU Professor – Level E

Full Academic Title Honorary Appointments currently work in a health professional role and are actively engaged in/or plan to become engage in support of JCU.  A “JCU Professor" honorary appointee shall have the same skill base as a "Level D" academic and will be recognised as a leading authority in the relevant discipline area.

JCU Research Associate – Level A

Full Academic Title Honorary Appointments currently work in a health professional role and are actively engaged in/or plan to become engage in support of JCU.  A “JCU Research Associate” honorary appointee must be a recent JCU Higher Degree by Research graduate who will continue to make a significant contribution to the research activities of the University.

JCU Senior Research Fellow – Level C

Full Academic Title Honorary Appointments currently in a health professional role and are actively engaged in/or plan to become engage in support of JCU.  A “JCU Senior Research Fellow” honorary appointee must have at least five (5) years postdoctoral experience and a national profile in the relevant research field.

JCU Principal Research Fellow  –  Level D

Full Academic Title Honorary Appointments currently working a health professional role and are actively engaged in/or plan to become engage in support of JCU.  A “JCU Principal Research Fellow” honorary appointee must have at least eight (8) years of postdoctoral research with a requirement for academic results. Appointees must also boast a profile of international excellence in their relevant field of research as evidenced by peer reviewed achievements.

JCU Professorial Research Fellow – Level E
