JCU’s on-campus programs give students the opportunity to step into university life — explore disciplines, connect learning to careers, and build confidence for future study.
Our immersive experiences are designed to:
- Make university environments familiar and accessible
- Connect classroom learning to real-world careers
- Build confidence and belonging
- Support informed subject and post-school pathway decisions
Programs are delivered at:
- Townsville campus
- Cairns campus
Travel assistance may be available for eligible schools.
UniX – Year 8
Audience: Year 8 students
Format: Multi-day immersive experience
Delivery: On campus
Date: 23 - 27 November, 2026
UniX is JCU’s signature early-engagement program for Year 8 students. Through interactive workshops, campus activities and student-led sessions, participants gain an introduction to university in a supportive and engaging environment.
Students:
- Explore study areas and career pathways
- Build confidence navigating a university campus
- Begin thinking about subject choices and future directions
UniX supports early aspiration and awareness, particularly for students from regional, remote and equity backgrounds.
Campus Explorer Visits
Audience: Years 5 – 12
Format: One-day campus visit
Delivery: Townsville and Cairns campuses
Date: All year
Campus Explorer visits provide school groups with tailored learning experiences on campus.
Visits typically include:
- Discipline-linked learning activities
- Guided campus tours
- Sessions with current JCU student ambassadors
Students connect classroom learning to real-world applications and develop a sense of belonging in a university environment.
Navigate YOU Summit
Audience: Year 10 students
Format: Residential immersive program
Delivery: On campus (with accommodation)
Date: 6 - 10 July, 2026
Navigate YOU Summit is a fully funded live-in experience designed for students who have the capability to thrive at university but may lack confidence or career clarity.
Over five days, students:
- Experience university-level learning
- Explore career identity and subject pathways
- Build confidence and self-efficacy
- Develop clarity about ATAR and post-school options
- Connect with peers, mentors and industry partners
All travel, accommodation, meals and program costs are supported by JCU, Outreach.
Supporting access and participation
Equity and inclusion underpin all on-campus programs.
Support may be available to assist schools and students with participation, including:
- Travel subsidy assistance
- Participation support for priority cohorts
