Commencing International Students

On-campus Orientation sessions occur five times per academic year, and coincide with the  SP1, SP2, TR1,TR2, and TR3  intakes.

If a student commences their studies outside of these intakes, they should contact the Enrolments team at enrolments@jcu.edu.au for orientation information specific to them.

Subject offerings will be released in September, 2024. These will be available via the JCU subject search function.

The 2025 acacemic calendars are available at www.jcu.edu.au/students/academic-calendars

You can view the trimester start and end dates. The break between trimesters varies, but is usually between 2-3 weeks.

Subject offerings and timings are yet to be determined.

This information will be available in September 2024 via the JCU subject search function.

The move to trimesters will not affect visa requirements for international students following their approved study plan. The study plan ensures that students complete their course in the established timeframe specified in their visa.

International students need to enrol in and complete a full-time course load, which typically consists of nine credit points per trimester (equivalent to three subjects). Additional subject enrolment is subject to approval from the relevant College.

Please note that while international students can study one-third (or equivalent) of their course load online, you must be enrolled in at least one face-to-face subject in each compulsory study period.

Study Abroad and Exchange Students

Undergraduate Study Abroad students can attend for three consecutive trimesters.

Postgraduate Study Abroad and Exchange (UG and PG) students can attend for two consecutive trimesters.

Study Abroad/Exchange students can take up to four subjects per trimester without needing special approval from their home institution.

However, it's important to note that this exceeds the standard trimester subject load of three subjects. Students should choose their subjects wisely to manage their workload effectively.

If a student is staying for a block, they can bring forward their trimester accommodation contract start date and/or extend their end date as required to include the block period.

This can be organised by written request to Unilodge and is subject to availability. The additional time would be charged at the same weekly rate as the trimester contract.
