Apply
3 — How to apply for a pathways program depends on the course you are applying for.
JCU Prep is a free program you can enrol in to help you meet the entry requirements for your bachelors degree. This is a flexible pathway that is tailored around your needs and entry requirements, and you can be done in as little as 3 months. Find out more about JCU Prep.
You can apply for the JCU Prep course directly through the JCU Application Portal — no need to go through QTAC, regardless of whether you have an ATAR.
What You'll Need
Before starting your application, make sure you have the following documents ready:
- Citizenship documents (e.g. passport, visa, or citizenship certificate) if you were not born in Australia.
- Name change documentation, if you have previously studied at JCU and your name has changed
Submitting Your Application
- Go to the JCU Application Portal.
- Follow the prompts to complete your application.
- Upload your supporting documents when requested.
After You Apply
- You’ll receive an Offer for JCU Prep and a conditional offer for your selected Bachelor’s degree by email.
- Use the JCU App to accept your offer.

Check JCU application deadlines to make sure you apply in time for your preferred trimester
If you’d like to apply for a Course Entry Diploma Pathway, you can apply via QTAC. Simply note the QTAC course code for the location you want to study at. You'll need to enter this code as part of your QTAC application.
Make sure you check the application dates before applying. You can view our Application due dates page for more information.
After you apply
Applied through JCU
Once you’ve submitted your application, you’ll receive an email from us with your offer. Be sure to keep an eye on your inbox (and junk folder just in case).
Follow the instructions in the email to accept your offer. Learn more about accepting your offer.
Applied through QTAC
You can check the status of your application by regularly checking your QTAC account. You will receive a notification of the outcome here. Once you receive an offer, you’ll be given instructions you need to follow to accept your JCU offer.
Waiting time can vary, so it’s important to be patient. QTAC aims to make offers within 2 weeks after the application deadline. But in peak processing times, the waiting period might extend up to 6 weeks. Most of the time, offers made to school leavers and new students are sent out in the January offer round.
If you think you should’ve received an offer from JCU and haven’t, contact us.
Once you’ve accepted, you can:
- Access your study plans
- Enrol in subjects that suit your study goals and needs
